Neutral Running Shoes
Suitable for high-arched or rigid foot-type, where shock absorption is key
By Ian Griffiths BSc (Hons) PGCert MChS, sports podiatrist
These trainers are for people who have historically been called ‘neutral’ runners. In reality very few people (if any) actually walk or run in ‘neutral’.
Often people are referred to as neutral runners, when minimal pronation moments are evident visually. This foot-type can also be laterally unstable (have a tendency to ‘go over’ on the ankles). Neutral shoes do not have extra support features and are sometimes called a Cushioning shoe.
Think about buying these if:
- You have high arches as graded by the wet foot test
- Your shoes significantly leant away from each other on the old shoe test
- You consider yourself an efficient runner whose feet don’t roll inwards when you run
- Shock absorption is paramount
